Lesson One

Need to trust in the Lord

Memory Verses 1:

Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Proverbs 28:13: He that covereth his sins shall not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.


1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Focus 1:

Realize what you've tried is not working. The Letter "T" in the word TARRY stands for TRUST. What are you trusting in?

Lesson Four

Jesus died as our substitute and we are redeemed, forgiven, washed

Memory Verses 4:

1 Peter 1:18-19: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.


Psalm 103:12: As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.


Colossians 1:14: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:


Romans 5:10: For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the   death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.


Ephesians 1:6: To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us   accepted in the beloved.


Ephesians 2:6-7: And hath raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.


2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.


 John 1:12: But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Lesson Seven

Who do you yield your life too?

Memory Verses 7:

Romans 6:16: Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of disobedience unto righteousness?


Romans 6:22: But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

Focus 7:

The believer doesn’t have to yield themselves to sin.

Lesson Ten

The sinful nature (flesh/indwelling sin) remains in the believer

Memory Verses 10:

Romans 7:15: For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.


Romans 7:17-18: But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. For I know that in me (that is in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.

Focus 10:

The sinful nature is alive in the believer as it is before being saved, it cannot be reformed.

Lesson Two

Admit your struggles

Memory Verses 2:

Mark 2:17: When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, they that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.


Isaiah 53:5-6: But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.


Psalm 32:5: I acknowledge my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, ‘I will confess my transgression to the Lord,’ and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.


Galatians 5:1: Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.


Galatians 2:20: I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Focus 2:

Acknowledge your struggles. The letter “A” in the word “TARRY” stands for ADMIT. Have you admitted to yourself and others that you have a problem?

Lesson Five:

Jesus died as our representative so we are identified with Him

Memory Verses 5:

Romans 6:2: can we who died to sin still live in it.


Romans 6:3: Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death


Romans 6:4: We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in the newness of life.


Romans 6:5: For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection.


Romans 6:6: Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.


Romans 6:7: For he who has died has been freed from sin.


Romans 6:8: Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him.


Romans 6:11: Likewise, you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Focus 5:

The believer is freed from the power of sin because of their identity in Christ, believers have died with Christ.

Lesson Eight

Christians are freed from the law

Memory Verses 8:

Romans 7:1: Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives?


Romans 7:2: For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.


Romans 7:3: So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man.


Romans 7:4: Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ, that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.


Romans 7:5: For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.


Romans 7:6: But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Focus 8:

The Law is NOT the rule of life for the believer.

Lesson Eleven

The new nature delights in the law of God

Memory Verses 11:

Romans 7:22: For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man.


Romans 7:24-25: O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God-through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of god, but with the flesh the law of sin.

Focus 11:

Sanctification like salvation is not based on works or keeping the law, but rather who you know.

Lesson Three

Jesus died as our substitute and

we are now justified

Memory Verses 3:

Romans 3:10: As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one.


Romans 3:11: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh  

after God.


Romans 3:12: They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable, there is none that doeth good, no, not one.


Romans 3:19: Now we know that whatever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.


Romans 3:23: For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.


Romans 5:6: For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.


Romans 5:8: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.


Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Focus 3:

God saved us from the penalty of sin when Jesus was crucified as our substitute.

Lesson Six:


Memory Verses 6:

Romans 6:13: Neither yield (or “not present”) ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.


Romans 6:14: For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

Focus 6:

In addition to believers: 


Trusting God

Admitting that they be a slave to a habitual sin

Realizing that they are dead to sin

Reckoning themselves dead to sin 


They should also, Yield themselves to God not allowing sin to reign in their lives.

Lesson Nine

The purpose of the Law (Ten Commandments)

Memory Verses 9:

Romans 3:20: Therefore, by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.


Romans 7:7: What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, ‘You shall not covet.


Romans 7:8-9: But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead. I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.


Romans 7:10-13: And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me. Therefore, the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good. Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was

producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.

Focus 9:

The law is NOT for the righteous but the sinner.

Lesson Twelve

The Holy Spirit empowers the believers new life

Memory Verses 12:

Romans 8:1: There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus…


Romans 8:2: For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.


Focus 12:

The Holy Spirit gives life and peace.
